French For All

CinéSchool is a free educational film program for young audiences, designed to support French language learning in the United States through French-language and Francophone cinema. The program is offered by Villa Albertine and Albertine Foundation as part of the French For All initiative. It is open to French teachers in public and private nonprofit schools, accredited French schools and AEFE network schools, Alliances Françaises offering French classes, and FLAM programs in the United States.

How CinéSchool Works
CinéSchool is a fully digital program built around three online tools: FestivalScope, where students watch the films online during designated viewing weekends; Padlet, where students take part in private and moderated post-screening discussions; and Genially, where students complete interactive comprehension activities.

Step-By-Step Guide

  1. 1. Choose the film that best fits your class. Review the viewing dates, age recommendations, languages, themes, and content notes for each film. You can find the full selection on the Film Selection page, in the brochure (in French), or on the FestivalScope.
  2. 2. Register your class online. Fill out the registration form for the film you would like to use with your students. We recommend using your professional email address when registering. There is no final deadline to register, but each film has a limited number of views. Early registration is strongly recommended.
  3. 3. Receive your confirmation email. After registering, you will receive a confirmation email with useful information about the program, the FestivalScope platform, and the educational resources. If you do not receive the confirmation email, please check your spam folder. To avoid delivery issues, we recommend adding nathalie.charles@villa-albertine.org and filmevents@villa-albertine.org to your contacts.
  4. 4. Create your FestivalScope account. Two to three weeks before the online viewing weekend, you will receive an invitation from FestivalScope at contact@festivalscope.com. This invitation will allow you to create your account and access the film. Students will use your FestivalScope login details to watch the film at home during the scheduled viewing dates.
  5. 5. Prepare the film in class. Use the educational resources provided by CinéSchool to introduce the film, prepare students for the viewing, and build relevant vocabulary and cultural context.
  6. 6. Inform students and families. The film is intended to be watched at home during a designated weekend. Explanatory documents in English are provided for families to help them understand how the viewing works.
  7. 7. Watch the film on FestivalScope. Students watch the film online on FestivalScope during the indicated viewing period. Please note that access is limited in time: the film will only be available during the scheduled dates.
  8. 8. Complete the post-screening activities. After watching the film, students have two weeks to complete the online activities. These include comprehension exercises on Genially and responses on Padlet, where students can share their opinion about the film and, when available, ask questions to the filmmakers. These activities can be completed in class or at home.

By participating in CinéSchool, teachers agree to use the educational resources with their students before the viewing, inform students and families about the film’s availability on FestivalScope, and encourage students to take part in the Padlet discussion and complete the Genially quiz. Class participation in these activities may be taken into account for future CinéSchool registration.
