The Villa Albertine Atlanta program is dedicated to fostering connections between France and the Southeastern United States, encompassing Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Mississippi, and Alabama.
The Southeastern United States is undergoing a creative renaissance, transforming its complex history into a source of innovation. From the musical legacies of the Mississippi Delta, Memphis, and Nashville to the film, design, and digital industries booming in Atlanta and beyond, the region is redefining American culture. Rooted in a deep sense of place, shaped by its diverse heritage and by the fight for civil rights, the Southeast’s artists and entrepreneurs blend tradition with experimentation. While challenges such as inequality and limited cultural funding persist, grassroots initiatives and creative districts are driving inclusive growth. Today, the Southeast stands as a laboratory for cultural reinvention — where history, resilience, and creativity converge to shape a vibrant new identity for the region and the nation.
Hosting and producing content in synergy with partners:
— Organize artists, professionals, and thinkers’ residencies (Villa Albertine in Atlanta)— Produce public debate events for open dialogue on global and local issues (Night of Ideas, France-Atlanta) with Universities and cultural partners.— Co-design initiatives with partners such as Georgia Tech, the High Museum of Art, and The Goat Farm, ensuring local relevance and long-term impact in fields from music and film to architecture and new media.
Expanding and supporting cross-cultural initiatives:
— Foster opportunities that connect students, educators, and scholars from both countries, advancing global learning and research.— Support the initiatives of local stakeholders across all disciplines.— Connect museums, cultural institutions, and community organizations in both countries, promoting sustainable, two-way partnerships in the cultural economy.
In addition to national programs such as Albertine Residencies, French for All, and the Lafayette Fellowships, Villa Albertine Atlanta develops its own initiatives in collaboration with local partners, reflecting the cultural identity and dynamics of the Southeast—particularly those of Atlanta.
Among these projects, the City/Cité Atlanta x Marseille program fosters dialogue between two vibrant cultural hubs of the South, exploring the intersections of culture, environment, urban development, architecture, and social dynamics. The Night of Ideas has also become a highlight of Atlanta’s annual cultural calendar, bringing together more than 1,000 participants to engage in conversations on community building and the future of art and democracy.
Finally, Villa Albertine Atlanta focuses on three key areas in developing its programming:
— The connection between African American heritage and artistic expression and Afro-diasporic French-speaking artists, including those from the Caribbean.
— The future of cultural and creative industries—film, music, fashion, design, and digital arts—through partnerships with major local events and festivals such as the European Film Festival, France-Atlanta discussion series, Music in the Park, Atlanta Art Week, Atlanta Design Festival, SCAD Savannah Film Festival, and more.
— Talking to the leaders of tomorrow, developing transatlantic authors and thinkers discussions in campuses, as well as creative and artistic programming in partnerships with Universities.
We are actively seeking engagement from individuals, foundations, and corporate partners to support our activities in the Atlanta area.
