French For All

Part of French for All, this program leverages the skills of French-speaking Americans of all backgrounds to train a new generation of French teachers, notably through the creation of the TAPIF to Teacher and the French Teaching Fast Track training.

We offer Americans and native French speakers support to become teachers of French with 150 scholarships each year.

Future Teachers Program training are:

TAPIF To Teacher

Every year, nearly 1,500 aspiring educators embark on a unique journey to France through the Teaching Assistant Program in France (TAPIF). This immersive experience not only refines their French proficiency but also offers a firsthand look into the teaching profession.

This large cohort inherently possesses a keen interest in language education; according to a survey, 30% of TAPIF participants are seriously considering a career in teaching.

Recognizing this potential, the TAPIF To Teacher training offers an exciting opportunity for these upcoming teachers. Through an online foundational certificate program (Diplôme d’Université), participants can gain a comprehensive understanding of pedagogical principles and accelerate their professional development.

Designed to complement their 12-hour-per-week workload, this program also offers a significant advantage: participants can earn up to 12 transferable credits towards Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) or Master of Education (M.Ed.) programs at our seven partner U.S. universities.

Thanks to the French for All initiative, the French Embassy is proud to offer up to 100 full scholarships for this training.

The certificate program features two distinct tracks, allowing participants to specialize their learning:

1. Teaching French as a World Language: delivered by Université Paris Nanterre.

    2. Teaching a Subject in a World Language: delivered by Université Bordeaux Montaigne.

U.S. universities offering MAT or M.Ed. programs interested in partnering with us on this impactful training are encouraged to connect.

      French Teaching Fast Track

In memory of Yvonne André Istel

In the United States, 47 out of 50 States are currently experiencing a severe shortage of language teachers. This shortage threatens world language programs across the United States, including teachers of French: school administrators cite the most common reason for closing French programs as an inability to recruit qualified teachers.

In response to this shortage, the French Teaching Fast Track training helps those with a strong mastery of French enter into the teaching profession with mentoring, and essential teaching skills.

This initiative, facilitated by Catherine Ousselin and Bridget Yaden, will involve over 70 hours of training online. These training hours will allow the successful participant to receive a Personalized Learning Plan outlining the steps required to obtain a teaching license, as well as 4 graduate-level continuing ed credits from Pacific Lutheran University. The credits will be recognized by any accredited program in the US.

Participants will also have experienced teachers mentors from the AATF to help them finish their certification and connect with appropriate state and district administrators.

To apply, aspiring candidates must meet the following criteria:

      — Have a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree (or the foreign equivalent)

      — Prior authorization to work in the United States

      — Fluency in the French language

      — Proficiency in the English language
